I’m a teacher, I always have been. And I love to garden - there’s something magical and meditative about wandering through a rainbow of plants. The school garden is my natural home, and this year our homeschool garden is my classroom.

A Little Bit About Me...

I’ve worked with young children in one form or another for more than 25 years now. The past 15 of those years were spent as a teacher in early childhood classrooms, mostly here in Maine and in Seattle before that. I spent the last 8 years as the owner and director of my own, food & garden focused preschool program in Portland’s West End. This is my second year homeschooling my daughter, and the first year I’m doing it full time, right here in our own home kitchen garden. All the while, I’ve developed and led teacher education workshops, and designed my own curriculum materials.

I have a B.A. in Psychology, and an Interdisciplinary Master’s of Education from the University of Vermont, with a concentration in Personaily & Learning Style. I’ve been gardening since I was a kid helping in my mom’s garden back home in Vermont, and the seed to table process has been the focus of my attention for all of my adult life. I’m so grateful to slow down and settle into this work over the next few years of learning at home with my plant and bug loving 8 year old.

Company Overview

As I build out this website, in concurrence with the homeschool curriculum I’m designing with and for my 8 year old, I’ll be adding a wealth of resources intended to support learning in and around the garden. Because I am a classroom teacher, teacher educator and curriculum specialist by trade, many of the resources I develop, and the ones I find and share, are meant to be appropriate for both homeschool and classroom settings alike.

Additionally, I’m a huge promonent of supporting Maine’s amazing array of local farmers and food purveyors to provide the many foods we cannont conceivable grow and make ourselves, so I’ll be building out this website with all kinds of local food content and resources that I’ve collected over the years as well.
